Scot Agri is excited to welcome Billy Reid to the team as our new Agricultural Sales Representative at our Kelso depot!

Billy's Background in Agriculture

With over 23 years of hands-on experience in agriculture, Billy brings a wealth of knowledge and strong work ethic to his new role. He started his career as a self-employed contractor, managing harvests and planting trees throughout winter. Later, he worked with a major potato grower near Berwick-Upon-Tweed, contributing to a 500-acre operation that kept him busy with contract combining, baling, spraying and more!

Earlier in his career, Billy spent nearly a decade with a local tyre company, travelling across Scotland and Northern England fitting tyres and supporting farmers directly.

Now, he’s back to doing what he loves most: getting out to visit farmers, building relationships and supporting the ag community in the Borders. “This job is back into what I was doing again, visiting the farmers, and I’m thoroughly enjoying it,” he shares.

Why Scot Agri?

For Billy, joining Scot Agri felt like the perfect fit. Growing up on a farm and spending years working with tractors and in hands-on agricultural roles, staying in the industry was a natural choice – it’s what he knows best.

Scot Agri stood out to him as a strong, respected brand, and the opportunity to work in a role like this had been on his mind for years. What’s made the biggest impression so far is the company culture. Billy noted “everybody’s fantastic within the business, even the other depots that you never see much of. It’s just like one big family!”

Top Pick: Machinery That Stands Out

When it comes to machinery, Billy is a big fan of Massey Ferguson. He’s especially impressed with the new 8S series, praising its styling, comfort and drivability. With a nod to Massey’s iconic 2680, he sees the latest models as a perfect blend of modern design and trusted heritage, viewing Massey as a standout brand at Scot Agri. “I just love it,” he says.

Eager To Make an Impact

While the sales process can be challenging at times, Billy sees his background in farming as a major advantage. Having stood on other side of the transaction, he understands farmers’ needs and can relate to their day-to-day concerns.

What Billy is really enjoying along the way is the chance to connect with Scot Agri customers in the Borders. Whether it’s about how the crops are doing, or how the machines are holding up, it’s those chats that make the job so enjoyable. “It’s about building trust,” he commented. Billy uses the same approach he used back in his tyre-fitting days – a bit of friendly chat and banter while letting the business come naturally.

Life Outside of Work

When Billy isn’t working, he’s often found spending time with his family – and a surprising amount of it involves crazy golf! He plays all across the country from Edinburgh to Newcastle, and even took part in the Seahouses 2025 July Open. Billy is also a fan of green bowling, and while he admits he’s not the best at it, he enjoys it thoroughly. Outside of his hobbies, he likes cooking, dining out, going for walks, and making the most of the summer holidays!

Will Fleming, Agricultural Director added, “we’re excited to welcome Billy to the Scot Agri team. His hands-on experience and deep knowledge of the agricultural sector make him a strong addition, ready to support our customers and contribute to our continued success!”
