It depends on the model. The compact 525-60 and 530-60 run a 2-speed hydrostatic transmission with permanent 4-wheel drive. Across the Series III Agri Loadall range, JCB offers four options depending on trim: TorqueLock (a 4-speed Powershift gearbox with TorqueLock in top gear), PowerShift (4-speed), AutoShift (6-speed, with manual and automatic gear selection), and the award-winning DualTech Variable Transmission, which blends hydrostatic and mechanical drive with a Flexi mode for smooth, stepless control. The fully electric 525-60E works differently again, with a single-speed electric drive and regenerative braking rather than a traditional gearbox.

The 525-60E gives you the same lift height and similar capacity as a diesel 525-60, with zero emissions, much lower noise, and reduced running costs thanks to maintenance-free batteries and less servicing. It's a strong option for enclosed buildings, urban sites or anywhere noise and air quality matter.

The 525-60E has a built-in charger that connects directly to standard AC mains power, so most farms can charge it from their existing electrical supply. On a standard single-phase 3kW (240V, 16A) connection, a full charge takes around 8 hours, or about 5 hours to go from 25% to 80%, so an overnight charge covers a working day. If you have a three-phase 415V/32A supply, the optional rapid charger cuts a full charge to under 2 hours (110 minutes), or just 60 minutes for a 25-80% top-up.
