Getting to Know Michael Wilson: Agricultural Sales Representative at Scot Agri
Scot Agri is delighted to welcome Michael Wilson to the team as Agricultural Sales Representative based at our Perth depot.
With over three decades of experience in agriculture, Michael brings extensive industry knowledge, strong customer relationships and a genuine passion for farming in his new role.
A Lifetime in Agriculture
Agriculture has been at the heart of Michael’s career from the very beginning.
After leaving school, Michael spent 20 years working on his family’s farm near Blairgowrie, gaining valuable hands-on farming experience and developing a strong understanding of the day-to-day challenges faced by agricultural businesses.
In 2008, Michael made the move into agricultural sales, covering the Perthshire area for 10 years. Following this, he spent seven years specialising in potato machinery and working closely with some of Scotland’s leading potato growers and businesses.
After almost two decades in agricultural sales, Michael decided it was time for a new challenge and joined Scot Agri earlier this year.
‘I’ve always enjoyed working within agriculture and sales was something I always wanted to do,’ Michael explained. ‘Coming from a farming background helps because you understand the machinery, the crops and the challenges customers face every day.’
Supporting Farmers Across Perthshire & Beyond
For Michael, one of the best parts of the job is getting out and about meeting customers across the region.
Covering areas from Perthshire through to Aberfeldy and Pitlochry, he enjoys spending time on farms, discussing machinery requirements and learning more about customers’ businesses.
‘What I enjoy most is speaking to customers," he said. "You can have a good chat about their crops, livestock and machinery, and every day is different. It's great being out in the countryside and working directly with people.’
Building Long-Term Relationships
Customer relationships have always been a key focus throughout Michael’s career.
His approach is centred around listening to customers, understanding their individual requirements and being available whenever support is needed.
‘I think being helpful is the most important thing,’ Michael explained. ‘Customers need to know they can rely on you. Whether it’s advice, support or helping to find the right machine, it’s about being there for them and building that relationship over time.’
Having worked with many customers throughout his career, Michael believes trust and consistency are essential when developing long-term partnerships.
Why Scot Agri?
Since joining the business, Michael has been impressed by both the product offering and the support network across Scot Agri.
‘The JCB product range is a huge strength,’ he said. ‘The Loadall and Fastrac ranges are recognised throughout the industry, and alongside that, the level of service and support Scot Agri provides is very strong.’
Michael has also enjoyed getting to know colleagues across the business and has been particularly impressed by the support he's received since joining the team.
‘Everyone has been very welcoming and helpful. As someone new coming into the business, that’s made a real difference.’
Favourite Machinery
When it comes to machinery, Michael admits he's a big fan of the JCB Fastrac.
‘I think the Fastrac is a fantastic machine,’ he said. ‘There's a lot of potential for it across a wide range of farming operations and it's a very impressive product.’
Alongside the Fastrac, Michael is also a strong advocate of the JCB Loadall range, recognising the important role telehandlers play on modern farms.
Having recently attended training at JCB headquarters, he was particularly impressed by both the scale of the operation and the investment that goes into product development and customer support.
Early Success
Although still relatively new to Scot Agri, Michael has already enjoyed some early successes.
One particular highlight has been reconnecting with long-standing customers from previous roles and helping them invest in new JCB machinery.
‘It's been great to reconnect with existing customers and help them find the right machines for their businesses,’ he said. ‘Hopefully it's the start of many more to come.’
Life Outside of Work
Away from work, Michael enjoys staying active and making the most of his free time outdoors.
A keen golfer, he regularly spends time on the course and also enjoys cycling with his son around the Perthshire countryside.
