Tilly Pass Trailer Safety Check: Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Passing an annual Tilly Pass inspection ensures farmers operating trailed equipment are compliant with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98). It also ensures compliance with BS 14200:2023 standards.
Our fully qualified engineers carry out the full 18-point inspection, removing wheels to check brakes, drums, linings, springs, backing plates, axles and more. Your trailer is restored to the manufacturer's original specification, catching wear and damage before it can cause a breakdown or accident on the road.
A towing eye must show no more than 33% wear on a standard 40mm agricultural towing eye to pass inspection, and it should never be repaired or twisted. If wear goes beyond this limit, the trailer must be taken out of service until the towing eye is replaced by a qualified engineer.
A Tilly Pass is valid for 12 months from the date it's passed. Once your trailer passes, we fix a certificate to the rear as visible proof and send a copy of the service sheet to Tilly HQ, where it's held on a national database that can be checked in the event of an incident or by a future buyer.
