Ben Fleming: Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2024

We are celebrating Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2024 with an interview series! First up is our Apprentice Engineer Ben Fleming! Ben has learned various skills throughout his apprenticeship at both college and in the Scot Agri workshop at our Perth depot.

1. What motivated you to apply for the Scot Agri apprenticeship?

I was motivated to apply for the Scot Agri apprenticeship because of their well-known reputation and their variety of world class manufacturers.

2. What skills have you learned so far within your apprenticeship?

Throughout my apprenticeship I have learned how to strip down and rebuild a 4cyl engine at college, how to carry out a pre delivery inspection and how to do services on machinery in the workshop.

3. What do you enjoy the most about your apprenticeship?

I most enjoy travelling to farms in the van to see machinery getting put to work. This allows me to visit different parts of the countryside and meet customers.

4. What advice would you give someone who is applying for an apprenticeship?

My advice for someone who is applying for an apprenticeship would be to just go for it! An apprenticeship allows you to meet a wide variety of people both at college and work. You’re also given opportunities to travel for example, I’m going down to JCB factory at the end of this month!
