Meet our Apprentice Engineer Finn Sandison! With a keen interest in agriculture and engineering, Finn took the opportunity to develop his skills further within Scot Agri at our Haddington Depot.

1. What motivated you to apply for the Scot Agri apprenticeship?

The reason I applied for an apprenticeship was I have always had an interest in agriculture and engineering and thought this would be a great way to work in both of those industries. With Scot Agri being a well-established company, I have received high quality training and support to help develop my skills.

2. What skills have you learned so far within your apprenticeship?

Skills I have learned in my apprenticeship so far include welding, understanding electrical and hydraulic circuits, how to deal with customers, problem solving, teamwork and how to carry out service and maintenance tasks on agricultural machinery.

3. What do you enjoy the most about your apprenticeship?

What I enjoy most about my apprenticeship is the satisfaction after completing a job. It doesn't matter if the job was big or small, complicated or easy, they are all satisfying when they are finished. Other parts I enjoy are having a good relationship with the people I work with and learning about agriculture.

4. What advice would you give someone who is applying for an apprenticeship?

Some advice I would give is to be prepared as it's not an easy job, but you’ll struggle to find a more rewarding industry. PS: When you're out on a job always take your lunch and be prepared to be cold!
